I'm having problems programming my board - built on strip board. The program ( MyFP2_DRV8825HW203_291 )compiles ok then starts to upload. While programming the board LED starts to flash rapidly. It stays like this for at least 5 min. If I terminate by disconnecting the USB port and connect to the MyFocuserProL app, then press CONNECT it seems to communicate in a limited way. Get firmware returns P5000. There is no temperature displayed. The Get Temp returns and error message that it received P5000. Any thoughts?

You do realize that you used firmware for myfocuserpro2, but you alsi indicated that you were trying to use the wrong windows app?
This is myfocuserpro, not myfocuserpro2. You cannot run myfocuserpro applications with a board programmed with the myfocuserpro2 firmware.
firmware 2xx requires myfocuserpro2xxx applications and ascom drivers

Hi there
thanks for the prompt response. I've updated to Arduino IDE 1.8.9
Also turned on verbose in preferences
Selected the old bootloader
I note what you say about the incompatibility of the Windows application.
My fault. Got confused with the mass of info that you provide and all the
variants.
It looks like a programming problem still. I get the following message
shortly after it says it is uploading.
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x50
I am using a NANO board that has the CH340 USB interface. I downloaded a
driver for it and that seems to work when used with Great Cow Basic.
I am powering the board through the USB port and there is very little
consumption because the DRV8825 and the LCD are not connected yet.
It doesn't seem to be a psu problem.
I've tried pressing the RESET button while it is loading and this still
gives the same error message.
I appreciate you taking the time to help me.
cheers

Looks like it doesn't have the bootloader. If I try Tools - Burn Bootloader
it comes back with an error again.
I'm going to google for a fix.

Hi again, sorry I'm slow in responding but we have just moved house with
all the disruption that entails.
This is where I have got to.
I tried many time with different 'programmer' arduinos to load a bootloader
into the NANO. ( 3 in fact )
Every time it came back with a error "Yikes! Invalid device signature."
Then for none related reasons I upgraded fro Windows 7 to W10.
I also loaded MyFocuserPro2.
Just for the hell of it I connected the NANO and tried to program once more
and . . . it did! No errors!
It also seems to communicate with My FocuserPro2 ! It also worked with one
of the other NANO that seemingly failed to load the bootloader.
So I think I am on my way, though I'm not quite sure how!
Many thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Just tried loading a simple example into the board and its coming up with
the same error. Clearly a basic set-up problem.
Thanks

here are the critical settings
If you have these settings and it still will not program are you sure it has a bootloader present on the chip?

I would recommend
1. uninstall arduino IDE
2. Download Arduino 1.6.8 from here https://www.arduino.cc/download_handler.php?f=/arduino-1.6.8-windows.exe
3. Uninstall the sub driver for the ch340g chip
4. Reboot
5. Install the ch340g driver https://www.dropbox.com/s/qn6gv8sri5jaypn/ch341ser.zip?dl=0
6. Install the Arduino 1.6.8 IDE
7. Connect the nano
8. Start the Arduino IDE and open the firmware file
9. Select the correct comport and set the target to Arduino Nano
10. Program the controller
