In he middle of a system update (Leopard) my friend dropped some books on her
Mac. It crashed and now it does not boot.
I had her start it up in single-user mode in order to run Applejack (which I
installed on her computer when she got it).
After a long series of error messages, she typed in "applejack auto restart"
and received the message "not authorized as the root user", which I have not
seen before.
Has anyone seen this before? Are you aware of a feature that would allow us to
sign in as root user?
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Kevin

I am receiving this same error message. I am using an older version of
applejack that is compatible with os x 10.3.9. Please advise on how to rectify
the authorization issue.
Kind thanks.
