Can't get options to work

I have tried on several occasions to get the various options to work, but have always failed. I'm using a Mac Mini running 10.6.5.
When I type applejack after starting with Command + s, the intro box offers several options including a deep clean using AUTO and an auto restart using "applejack restart". I have tried both of these several times today (with and without the single quotes shown) and always get the message that I have mistyped and do I want to quit? If they don't work, PLEASE delete them. If they do work, please give some extra info as how to implement them.
Yours in deep frustration

I AM NO EXPERT HERE BUT LIKE TO SUGGEST YOU TYPE THE WORDS IN INDIVIDUALLY, WITHOUT QUOTES OR PERIODS, AND WITH A SPACE (OR 2) BETWEEN EACH WORD, ALSO I FOUND THAT THE "RESTART" COMMAND NETTED AN "INCORRECT" REPLY, I USED "REBOOT" INSTEAD AND IT WORKED WONDERS FOR MY SYSTEM. ..... JUST A THOUGHT, GOOD LUCK, WAYNE
Hello, I found it confusing too.
The commands have to be typed INSTEAD of the original applejack command and BEFORE the 'intro box' appears.
Hope this helps.
