Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

After about a year, the Apostle Project is now officially restarted. The=20 Apostle OS will be an operating system built on top of the Gemini Nucleus= =2E=20 This weekend I imported a new module into the Apostle Project CVS tree ca= lled=20 "apostle". It does not do too much and it might need some tweaking to get= it=20 to work for you, but it is a start. Have a look at it! For those of you who would like to keep track of changes to the code, ple= ase=20 subscribe to the apostle-cvs mailing list. You will receive an email of e= ach=20 "cvs commit". Cheers, Guido |

Right now a disk image is available from the Apostle Project ftp site (ftp://apostle.sourceforge.net/pub). Just download it and copy it onto an empty floppy disk. Then you can restart your computer, booting from that disk. On Linux, to copy the image to a floppy disk use: dd if=apostle-<date>.image of=/dev/fd0 On DOS/Windows try using "rawrite". It comes with most Linux ditributions and is available form many websites. Enjoy! Guido |

The Apostle website has been updated. It now contains a "links" page and a question was added to the FAQ. Guido |

The Apostle micro-kernel version 0.0.3 is available from the Apostle ftp-site at SourceForge. This release provides for enough system calls to develop the first simple external modules. The code in the CVS tree is hereby promoted to version 0.0.4. Guido |

Hi, all! Just wanted to let you guys know that I just made the new Apostle Project website available. I merely took some of stuff on Spence' old site and some of the later SourceForge stuff by Kasper and added a little of myself. Some things need to be worked on, but at least no more "Under construction" messages :-) . Feel free to mail any comments. Also you might want to notify me of spelling or grammatical errors, 'cause English is not my native tongue :-) . Enjoy! Guido |

This is as much a welcome as it is a test; I do hope you'll enjoy the conversation on this mailinglist. Kasper Verdich Lund Administrator of apostle.sourceforge.net |
