Given the current market situation I'm not shure about that. :-) Nevertheless, Hibernate is one implementation of a standard (Java Persistence API). Organisations and users might look for features (e.g. support for different databases), usability, performance, etc. Hibernate (probably as an intermediate step) will open a chance for improvements in a foreseeable time frame.
