This page lists a few tips and example scenarios for editing strategies.

The rfigui was substantially improved in version 2.12, in particular in visualizing results and using the strategy wizard.

How to modify a strategy

When you open the rfigui, you can open the strategy editor by selecting "Edit strategy" from the "Actions" menu.

If you have opened a measurement set before doing so, a strategy will be shown that is optimized for the telescope corresponding to the measurement set. If not, a generic strategy is shown.

For small changes, the simplest method is to use the strategy wizard that is available since 2.12. To test the strategy, load an interesting baseline and press F9 (execute strategy) or select that option from the toolbar (the little gear) or menu.

Changing the overal sensitivity

If too much or too little is flagged, the first thing to try is changing the flagging threshold of the SumThreshold actions. High values flag less, while low values flag more. The overal sensitivity can be altered by changing the sensitivity in the wizard (the wizard has an option to decrease or increase the sensitivity, as well as a manual option to directly set the threshold), or by changing both SumThreshold actions.

When changing the strategy manually, the two SumThreshold action normally should have the same sensitivity. One is applied iteratively inside the loop that also separates RFI from real signal, while the other one is applied one final time on the best estimate of the residuals.

The SumThreshold can be set to have separate time and frequency direction sensitivities. Normally it is best to keep these the same, unless there is particular RFI or structure that the flagger is too sensitive or not sensitive enough for.
