Hi Kealan, Sorry for the late reply. This error has happened to several people recently, we still haven't worked out why. After having a quick look at the code: You might like to try disabling the ZLIB compression mode, which might not work well properly in Ubuntu 11.04. Unfortunately, this is fixed in the code, so there is no option to disable it in the app; it would require a new build. If you have some knowledge of building Android apps, you could checkout the code and comment out the compression code, a bit like this - http://pastebin.com/1XTXPgCQ Otherwise, I'll see if I sort you out a build with ZLIB compression disabled. I'm pretty busy right now, but hopefully I'll find some time during next week to sort it. It would be good to sort this problem out once and for all. Thanks Sean 2012/4/22 Kealan Stinson-Partlow <kea...@ho...>: > Hello, I've been searching forums and whatnot about this problem. > > When I attempt to connect to either of my computers, I get this error: > Failed to connect to remote machine | [192.168.1.150] Error whilst > connecting to device: Failed to connect to SSH server, is it running? > > Background info: > > I installed Tesla-0.14.apk on my motorola Droid a855 (This seemed to be the > latest version on sourceforge) > > I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 > > I have openssh-server installed > > when I type sudo start ssh, it says it's already running. > > I can connect using ConnectBot > > Thanks for any help you can give me, I'm really eager to get this working. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Live Security Virtual Conference > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Hello, I've been searching forums and whatnot about this problem. When I attempt to connect to either of my computers, I get this error: Failed to connect to remote machine | [192.168.1.150] Error whilst connecting to device: Failed to connect to SSH server, is it running? Background info: I installed Tesla-0.14.apk on my motorola Droid a855 (This seemed to be the latest version on sourceforge) I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 I have openssh-server installed when I type sudo start ssh, it says it's already running. I can connect using ConnectBot Thanks for any help you can give me, I'm really eager to get this working. |

Hi there. After some problems getting Tesla going I'm now able to connect (Nexus S, Rhythmbox). Rhythmbox starts when I fire up the Tesla app which is cool, and I have gotten it to skip forwards and play/pause; what goes wrong is: 1. HUGE lag between command and action 2. Album art not displayed on phone 3. Tesla commands do nothing an initial period of a minute or so 4. The search does nothing Any suggestions for any of these? Cheers - looks like it's got the potential to be a great app/project! Simon |

Hello. Im trying to use tesla on an HTC Desire HD with android 2.3.3 trying to connect to an Ubuntu machine running Ubuntu 11.04. When I try log in I get “error whilst authenticating with connected device: …” error. The phone is on the same wireless network and I can sync files using another application with the Ubuntu machine just fine. The phone is also not connected to the charger. I tried accessing the same machine using the same credentials from another machine (windows PC) with an SSH client and I had no problems. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks for the good work though. Regards Adam |

hey! just downloaded tesla. enourmously cool. also that it needs no installation on the server and that it controls system volume. However, when i click the playlist in amarok (or VLC), the app crashes i use a hostname instead of ip, could this be the problem? -- Rogier Elshout +31624768948 | www.rogierelshout.eu | @rogierelshout |

I for one would like to see song ratings in the gui. Banshee in particular (and many other players) takes advantage of the star rating you apply to songs. so this would be useful in a media player remote app. |

Can't get it to work at all on the Nexus S. It'll connect, let me pick a program, but once it starts to display the controls for anything, it dies hard and requires a force close. |

Hey DrRavenwood, The site is back online again, turned out there was a problem with a routine software upgrade. I've made some changes to the SSH instructions, thanks for pointing out the problem! Hi DrRavenwood, Thanks for the feedback! I'll take a look at the SSH instructions, they've probably fallen out of date. We've recently been having some technical difficulties with the server that hosts the project website. I'm hoping they will be resolved this week. In the meantime, I'm happy to field any questions you might have about the project - Not ideal, I know. Regarding the playlist request: Unfortunately this feature is dependent on the player. Some media players (e.g. Rhythmbox) only provide the tracks for the currently playing album. The collection manager (top left "eject" button, enabled for all the players that can support it) is supposed to fill the gap by allowing you to search and play more music. It's not a perfect solution, but I'm hoping that in time some of the popular media players will update their API and make it easier for developers to create these kind of features... Hey hey... Love what u're doing... Tested the app and it worked without any problems... Though I couldn't get the OpenSSH to work using u're direct link, so used this guide instead... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/setup-openssh-server-on-ubuntu-linux/ The link to the app 4 the phone worked fine... The last thing, I can't seem to get to u're project homepage, seems like the link doesn't work... It asks me to download something when I enter u're HP, that doesn't seem right... Anyways, continue the good work... - DrRavenwood P.s. One thing that might be a neat addition is that the playlist button loads u're entire list instead of just the album it's currently playing... |

Hi, I would really love to be able to use this software since I haven't really come across anything like it on Android Market. However, I actually can't get it to work with my computer. I am on openSUSE 11.3, openSSH installed, running and working (I can log in via SSH from anywhere else just fine), but Tesla gives me the following error when I try and log in: "Error whilst authenticating with connected device: Authentication failed for user xxxx". I am using my usual user name and password and also doublechecked everything to exclude a typo as the culprit. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Andre PS: Connecting to my computer from my phone with ConnectBot also works without a problem. Plus, I tried using Tesla with a virtual machine running Mint (which is Debian based) and that worked, too. |

Lukas, I thought I had responded to your email, but it appears I never did. Apologies for that! I'm putting together another release soon, I'll run a few tests with Exaile to make sure the support is complete. I do remember that Exaile underwent a serious rewrite of their remote control API a while back, it would be really useful to know which version of Exaile you are using so I can test against the correct one... Hi, Tesla version 0.14 has just been released, this is a relatively small release with the critical Ubuntu 10.10 support contributed by Robert Johnson. This fix will also help those having problems connecting Tesla to their PC because they have a MOTD message configured for their shell. Happy new year! Sean |

Hi, just found this great app and testet it on my HTC Desire. Unfortunately Exaile, the main reason I want to use this app, doesn't work. The others (VLC, Rythmbox, etc) work great. But Exaile just closes with an "unexpected error" message. Is this a known problem? Is there a specific Exaileversion or -plugin required for Tesla to work? Keep up the good work, Lukas |

Hi Nick, Thanks a lot for your feedback. There is some effort under way to resolve this issue, as soon as testing is complete another update will be published. Watch this space! Hi, really useful software, but some annoying things happen: It requires the SSH server to produce no output at all after login. E.g. a motd message can break everything. however the motd message can be disabled but I use otp pam module which always reminds how many passwords are used. Because of this output - the remote can not connect. It would be nice if the software is modified to ignore everything before it's own identifier. E.g. you can use an ID string like *****TESLAOUT**** and everything before this string to be ignored. This way it will work with any SSH server. All the best! |

Hello, This seems to be a great application, however I couldn't get it to run on my machine. My desktop has a non-standard ssh port because of security reasons and I couldn't find a port setting. If there is a port setting feature, how can I access it? If there is not one would it be possible to add it to the next version? Thank you! Jim |

Sean, I have tried just about every remote app for my Droid and this is by far the most encompassing. Great work! I was just wondering two things. 1) How do you control the system volume and 2) if you could include support for the Last.fm desktop client and Pithos (Pandora desktop client)? Looking forward to your response. Bob. |

Hey all, As of last night 0.12 of Tesla has been released... The big news this time is the ability to search your PC's music and video collection! Full feature list: * Collection browser (Currently only MPRIS supporting players) * More accurate volume control * Asynchronous artwork retrieval (improves UI refreshing) * More SSH connection handling improvements * The obligatory bug fixes The collection browser requires the Tracker service to be enabled and up-to-date on your PC (check the System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications utility in Gnome, details on KDE4 support to come soon). It is currently not available for Songbird, Rhythmbox, Banshee, and Kaffeine; support for these players is intended to be added soon. Focus for next release will be to expand the current functionality for all media players. Currently some players do not support certain features because they lack a complete API. Hopefully some collaborative development will help to bridge this gap. Merry Christmas! Regards, Sean |
