Well, 0.9 is a whole lot slower. It's also a lot more painful to debug. It doesn't have support for a lot of charsets. But if it's working fine for you, then you can safely keep it installed. I really don't think migrating from 0.9 to 1.0 should be that hard really. I'm not sure what you did exactly as far as authentication goes but you probably chose an overly complicated solution that you could quite simply get working more simply with a few minor changes.
