Are you using spamassassin? It is fairly heavy on the cpu.

Your amavisds are larger than mine. Are you using something like
the libsavi interface to Sophos? I use sophie and clamd. I doubt
that these would make a lot of difference to the cpu as the main
user of cycles is spamassassin. I am seeing a rise in the volume
of spam.
