Hello, I've been happily using amavisd-new+amavis-milter+sendmail+clamav+sophie+spamassassin for more than a year. These services are running with Debian/testing on a dual 200Mhz PII with 512 Meg RAM. I'm having difficulties with amavis-milter timeouts since amavisd-new-20030616-p8/9. I first thought these timeouts where coming from SA. I tried to tune sa_timeout and spamassassin backhair, bigevil, blackholes files without success. I get the following logs : Apr 9 00:27:01 atlas sm-mta[21552]: i38MH0tg021552: Milter: data, reject=451 4.7.1 Please try again later Apr 9 00:28:07 atlas amavis-milter[6650]: (mlfi_eom) smfi_addheader failed Apr 9 00:28:07 atlas amavis-milter[6650]: (mlfi_cleanup) unlink failed: Bad address Apr 9 00:37:14 atlas sm-mta[19645]: i38MRE2t019645: Milter: data, reject=451 4.7.1 Please try again later Apr 9 00:38:54 atlas sm-mta[5376]: i38MSsEa005376: Milter (milter-amavis): init failed to open Apr 9 00:38:54 atlas sm-mta[5376]: i38MSsEa005376: Milter: initialization failed, temp failing commands ... and so on ... As you can read, it happened in the middle of the night when the gateway load is quite low. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong ? Thanks advance for your help. =-=-=-=-= - startup syslog copy : clamd[21636]: Daemon started. clamd[21636]: Log file size limited to 1048576 bytes. clamd[21636]: Reading databases from /var/lib/clamav/ clamd[21636]: Protecting against 20967 viruses. clamd[26598]: Unix socket file /var/run/amavis/clamd.sock clamd[26598]: Setting connection queue length to 15 clamd[26598]: Can't save PID in file /var/run/clamd.pid clamd[26598]: Maximal number of threads: 12 clamd[26598]: Archive: Archived file size limit set to 52428800 bytes. clamd[26598]: Archive: Recursion level limit set to 25. clamd[26598]: Archive: Files limit set to 1000. clamd[26598]: USING HARDCODED LIMIT: Archive: Compression ratio limit set to 200. clamd[26598]: Archive support enabled. clamd[26598]: RAR support disabled. clamd[26598]: Blocking encrypted archives. clamd[26598]: Mail files support disabled. clamd[26598]: OLE2 support disabled. clamd[18342]: Self checking every 3600 seconds. clamd[18342]: Timeout set to 180 seconds. clamd[18342]: SelfCheck: Database status OK. sophie[21066]: NOTICE : Setting configuration options - please wait... sophie[21066]: NOTICE : Configuration options set sophie[21066]: Sophos engine : Sophos engine version 2.18 sophie[21066]: Sophie IDE : Sophos IDE version 3.79 (detects 88687 viruses) sophie[21066]: SAVI config : /etc/sophie.savi sophie[21066]: Max processes : 20 sophie[21066]: Socket path : /var/run/amavis/sophie.sock sophie[21066]: Umask : 7 sophie[21066]: PID file : /var/run/amavis/sophie.pid sophie[21066]: Timeout : 300 seconds sophie[21066]: Running as user : amavis sophie[21066]: Socket group : amavis sophie[21066]: Logname : sophie sophie[21066]: Log facility : 16 (mail) sophie[21066]: Log priority : 5 (notice) sophie[21066]: Error strings? : yes sophie[21066]: Timestamps? : no sophie[21066]: Show virus name? : yes sophie[21066]: Callbacks? : yes sophie[21066]: limit_classif : 10 sophie[21066]: limit_nextfile : 10000 sophie[21066]: limit_decompr : 1000 sophie[21066]: socket_check : yes sophie[21066]: Sophie version : 3.04rc2 sophie[21066]: /usr/local/bin/sophie Placed in the background [PID: 9743] amavis-milter[15628]: Starting, handing off to smfi_main amavis[4895]: starting. amavisd at atlas amavisd-new-20030616-p9, Unicode aware, LC_ALL=fr_FR, LC_TYPE=ISO_8859_1, LANG=fr_FR amavis[4895]: Perl version 5.008003 amavis[4895]: Module Amavis::Conf 1.15 amavis[4895]: Module Archive::Tar 1.08 amavis[4895]: Module Archive::Zip 1.05 amavis[4895]: Module Compress::Zlib 1.16 amavis[4895]: Module Convert::TNEF 0.17 amavis[4895]: Module Convert::UUlib 1.01 amavis[4895]: Module DB_File 1.808 amavis[4895]: Module MIME::Entity 5.404 amavis[4895]: Module MIME::Parser 5.406 amavis[4895]: Module MIME::Tools 5.411 amavis[4895]: Module Mail::Header 1.60 amavis[4895]: Module Mail::Internet 1.60 amavis[4895]: Module Mail::SpamAssassin 2.63 amavis[4895]: Module Net::Cmd 2.24 amavis[4895]: Module Net::DNS 0.46 amavis[4895]: Module Net::SMTP 2.26 amavis[4895]: Module Net::Server 0.85 amavis[4895]: Module Time::HiRes 1.52 amavis[4895]: Module Unix::Syslog 0.100 amavis[4895]: Found myself: /usr/local/sbin/amavisd -c /etc/amavis/amavisd.conf amavis[4895]: Lookup::SQL code NOT loaded amavis[4895]: Lookup::LDAP code NOT loaded amavis[4895]: AMCL-in protocol code loaded amavis[4895]: SMTP-in protocol code NOT loaded amavis[4895]: ANTI-VIRUS code loaded amavis[4895]: ANTI-SPAM code loaded amavis[2055]: Net::Server: Process Backgrounded amavis[2055]: Net::Server: 2004/04/10-13:42:02 Amavis (type Net::Server::PreForkSimple) starting! pid(2055) amavis[2055]: Net::Server: Binding to UNIX socket file /var/run/amavis/amavisd.sock using SOCK_STREAM amavis[2055]: Found $file at /usr/bin/file amavis[2055]: Found $arc at /usr/bin/nomarch amavis[2055]: Found $gzip at /bin/gzip amavis[2055]: Found $bzip2 at /usr/bin/bzip2 amavis[2055]: Found $lzop at /bin/lzop amavis[2055]: Found $lha at /usr/bin/lha amavis[2055]: Found $unarj at /usr/bin/arj amavis[2055]: Found $uncompress at /bin/uncompress amavis[2055]: No $unfreeze, not using it amavis[2055]: Found $unrar at /usr/bin/rar amavis[2055]: Found $zoo at /usr/bin/zoo amavis[2055]: Found $cpio at /bin/cpio amavis[2055]: Using internal av scanner code for (primary) Sophie amavis[2055]: Using internal av scanner code for (primary) Clam Antivirus-clamd amavis[2055]: Found secondary av scanner Clam Antivirus - clamscan at /usr/bin/clamscan amavis[2055]: Found secondary av scanner Sophos Anti Virus (sweep) at /usr/local/bin/sweep amavis[2055]: SpamControl: initializing Mail::SpamAssassin amavis[2055]: SpamControl: done sm-mta[6952]: starting daemon (8.12.11): SMTP+queueing@00:10:00 =-=-=-=-=-=-= Regards -- - Philippe < I U T 'A' Paul Sabatier > phi...@iu...
