Good morning! I do have /usr/include/ncurses/curses.h on my system; according to RPM, my version of this file came from libncurses5-devel-5.2-12mdk. I don't know why "make install" failed to detect the definitions. Fortunately, I vaguely recalled that Mandrake did have some ALSA packages, and I decided to look again and see which ones were there. Better late than never--I found that, although Mandrake (for some unknown reason) doesn't have an RPM package with the ALSA drivers, it does have packages with the libs and utils. I've now installed the following packages: alsa-lib-0.5.10-2mdk alsa-utils-0.5.10-2mdk alsa-lib-devel-0.5.10-2mdk Imaginably, I *may* now be ready to Read The Fine Man Pages (and any other relevant documentation), unmute the mixer channels, and hear some sounds. Speaking of fine man pages, are there any? When I entered "man alsa" at the command line, I was informed that there weren't. I have the ALSA HOWTO and mini-HOWTO. Is there any other documentation I need to read so I won't needlessly bug the people on this list with easy questions? :-) If so, thanks in advance for telling me what it is! David McClamrock |
