Let me try this request for help again. I'm new to alsa, and in fact new to sound for computers. My attitude has always been it either works out of the box or it wasn't worth messing with. The speakers are not attached to my personal machine as I find the constant beepings annoying. But my customers for my new business seem to want to hear their machines, so I have got to learn this stuff. Any ideas of what might be causing this and how I should adjust my configuration so this is no longer an issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- Hugh Begin forwarded message: Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2005 15:58:56 -0700 From: Hugh Esco <he...@re...> To: als...@li... Subject: Help pls, w/ aplay: pcm_write:1146: write error Although, running `dcd play` pipes music through the sound card in an acceptable way . . . Running the following command results in a very delayed start of the playing of the sound, which proceeds a few notes at a time, repeated in a loop, then progressing a few more notes, repeating that in a loop, and on like that until it completes. Below is background from /proc/asound and dpkg -l. I did a stock install of Debian Sarge, new stable, then following the instructions at: http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Debian/alsa.html installed alsa using apt-get and wrote the configuration suggested for my chip in the matrix to /etc/modutils/alsa, then rebooted. Any ideas how to rectify this situation would be greatly appreciated.
