Can > you check on this? > > Lee > Hi Lee, When I had the "sound enabled" in kde, ps aux returned artsd -F 10 -s 4096 -a alsa -d -s55 -m artsmessage -c drkonqui -l 3 -f which I confess I don't understand but it may tell you whether KDE is using default. If this is irrelevant where should I look for the hw:0,0 / default setting? Since the euphoria of the last missive it has come to my notice that only one application will output sound while the rest will block waiting for the application to close the device. So it looks as if aRts still has a role to play. On the alsa-project soundcard matrix page the only tested SB LS cards are SB0310 P17 and SB0410 P17. Would they have the same chip as the Holco Enterprise Co, Ltd/Shuttle Computer: Unknown device 3038 ?
