Yesterday, I had no problems using Ardour to record a new session. I tried playing a movie in Mplayer today, and I couldn't get any sound. I realized I hadn't configured it for my soundcard. When I tried to configure it, I got: alsa-init: pcm prepare error: Input/output error Now I can't get JACK to start or any other audio out of my computer. The only thing I did before the Mplayer adjustment, I think, was "smart upgrade" in Synaptic that upgraded a number of apps from the Ubuntu Hoary repositories. When I try to start JACK, the errors are: ALSA: cannot set hardware parameters for capture ALSA: cannot configure capture channel cannot load driver module alsa zombified - calling shutdown handler In beep, the error is: "Couldn't open audio..." How do I troubleshoot this?=20 My /proc/asound/cards looks like this: 0 [I82801DBICH4 ]: ICH4 - Intel 82801DB-ICH4 Intel 82801DB-ICH4 with AD1981B at 0xc0000c00, irq 11 1 [NX ]: USB-Audio - SB Audigy 2 NX Creative Technology Ltd SB Audigy 2 NX at usb-0000:00:1d.1-2, full speed My /proc/asound/version looks like this: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.9b.
