Thanks Clemens! I think I follow what you are saying but just to clarify... Is this why my stereo line in and stereo mic in only seems to go to the front channel automagically? There is no software work around within alsa then? Is there some other software that will allow me to work around this? Is this the kind of thing JACK is used for? I have a D-Link USB FM Radio (analog output into computer) that I am trying to make go into all my speakers. If I can do this I am officially ready to install my navigation computer project (gentoo, alsa, Xorg, fvwm, gpsdrive, postgis, mysql, gqmpeg, etc.) into my vehicle. I have another sound card available on this system: root@recon<618>~ # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [audigy ]: USB-Audio - SB Audigy 2 NX Creative Technology Ltd SB Audigy 2 NX at usb-0000:00:10.0-1, full speed 1 [via ]: VIA8233 - VIA 8235 VIA 8235 with VT1616i at 0xe400, irq 10 The only reason why I am using the Audigy at all is because the VIA doesn't allow me to do surround40 and still have the analog line in for the FM tuner. Or at least that is what I read from the various docs out there. Surround out uses all the Mini DIN jacks as outputs so there is no longer an analog input for the FM radio device. I also see that there has been a lot of work done with the VIA stuff since I started this project, maybe this is no longer true? Would there be a way to send the line/mic in from the Audigy to the VIA surround40? That may work...? Is it possible to "hop" devices like that? I'd consider purchasing new hardware to accomplish this. Is there a well supported USB device that would allow me to do this? I am aware of the TerraTech but it does not seem to be available in North America. The computer is a small format Mini-ITX and the case is too small to add an additional PCI card so I'm stuck in USB hell it seems. Sorry for the many questions...I've got about a year's worth of lunch hours and late nights into this entire project and I'm oh, so close to having it ready to install. I'd appreciate any practical insights anyone could provide. -- http://moose.ca |
