I have the exact same notebook. I have no idea if I am helping...but I can get sound (xmms radio stream) to come thru the speakers or the headphones. I am using FC3 and alsa 108 built from alsas-project packages not rpms or anything like that... To get any sound from just about anywhere, using alsamixer I have to make "PCM out" read 'post 3D' (highlight PCM Out mixer control and use up/down arrows to jump between pre 3D and post 3D ). No idea what post 3D and pre 3D means. At that point, I can either: unmute "Headphon" and adjust the volume (on Headphone) or unmute "Master" adjust the volume (on 'Master') AND unmute 'External' - NOTE can't have ear phones plugged in - this appears to shutoff the builtin speakers - like someone mentioned. From your output below - looks like you have 'Pre 3d' set. My /proc/asound/cards is the same as yours. I don't have a file '/proc/asound/card0/codec97#0' rather I have a 'directory' there that contains two 'files': ac97#0-0 ac97#0-0+regs When listening thru headphones: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0 says (this looks like what you sent): ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 0-0/0: SigmaTel STAC9750/51 Capabilities : -headphone out- DAC resolution : 20-bit ADC resolution : 20-bit 3D enhancement : SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Current setup Mic gain : +0dB [+0dB] POP path : post 3D Sim. stereo : off 3D enhancement : off Loudness : off Mono output : MIX Mic select : Mic1 ADC/DAC loopback : off Extended ID : codec=0 rev=1 AMAP DSA=0 SPDIF VRA Extended status : SPCV SPDIF=10/11 VRA PCM front DAC : 44100Hz PCM ADC : 48000Hz SPDIF Control : Consumer PCM Copyright Category=0x22 Generation=1 Rate=48kHz When listening thru speakers (and hearing stuff): cat /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0 says: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 0-0/0: SigmaTel STAC9750/51 Capabilities : -headphone out- DAC resolution : 20-bit ADC resolution : 20-bit 3D enhancement : SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Current setup Mic gain : +0dB [+0dB] POP path : post 3D Sim. stereo : off 3D enhancement : off Loudness : off Mono output : MIX Mic select : Mic1 ADC/DAC loopback : off Extended ID : codec=0 rev=1 AMAP DSA=0 SPDIF VRA Extended status : SPCV SPDIF=10/11 VRA PCM front DAC : 44100Hz PCM ADC : 48000Hz SPDIF Control : Consumer PCM Copyright Category=0x22 Generation=1 Rate=48kHz These look the same to me - the difference I see, between mine and yours, is the 'POP path' value. I have no idea if any of this helps, but.....
