The only thing I changed related to sound was to boot into Windows last nig= ht during my college class and I muted the sound volume to keep the compute= r quiet during class. That's when the old behavior started. So I rebooted into Windows (XP), unm= uted the sound, rebooted into Linux, and everything was back to normal! I don't know what Windows did to the volume when it muted it, but I do know= that ALSA driver intel8x0 is unable to undo it. I have to boot to Windows= to unmute, then Linux works again. Torsten |
