OK, I've tried it. dxs_support disabled makes things worse, all other settings produce no noticable difference. The new drivers make things a little better (longer stretches of audio before it cuts out) but it's not yet listenable. I've dug around in /proc/ and produced a comparison between the values with RealPlayer (error free sound) and xine (crackling / cutting out): xine OSS periods bytes 8196 OSS periods 8 OSS period frames 2048 realplay OSS periods bytes 16354 OSS periods 4 OSS period frames 4096 both times was the OSS rate 44100 I'm not sure if that's helpful. I'm quite happy to run any other sort of diagnostics if that helps. The new drivers happily identify my rev60 chip as a V8237 now, but it doesn't seem to be used in the code so i guess that is only cosmetic. I believe the problem may be that the sound card plays one 'chunk' of audio (a period?), skips the next one, and plays the third, etc. At least, that is my impression while listening.
