I have an SB Audigy LS (model SB0310) card installed on my PC: a dual athlon system with 1Gb ram and 2x120Gb disks configured with some raid1 and raid0 partitions. The system is dual OS: windows 2000 that I us= e very few times and main os that is a slackware-current synchronized at first of November 2004. I compiled a 2.6.9 kernel from scratch and then compiled alsa 1.0.7 libs,= drivers and utils. I'm using udev. BTW: I've seen that 2.6.10-rc2 still contained 1.0.6 some days ago... It seems that I configured all ok for the SB card, also thanks to James web tips, but I can get only sound similar to knocks on a microphone if I try to us= e SPDIF out. I have a 5.1 system from Olidata (OLI9918) capable of doing Dolby prologi= c and DTS too. The audio system has 2xrca connection (line), coax connection and optical= connection. The connection between the SB0310 and audio system is ok if I mute the SPDIF and then I enable sound for analog channels in alsamixer and connect the minijack to line out 1 jack (front left/right) and then the 2xrca connectors to the additional line input I have an the audio subsystem. I can hear the sound and I can play with xine and mplayer and also set Do= lby or DTS in dvd menu (but I'm really using it or should be managed only fro= m SPDIF???) I've not a so fine ear, so I can't tell you what I miss from digital out to analog out... :-) In windows 2K I'm able to get this configuration working: through the SPDIF OUT connector and the cable is a minijack 3.5 stereo-->= 2x rca with only one of these connected to the coax plug available on the= audio system. In windows it seems to behave correctly: I can configure it as 5.1 in creative utils and when in stereo I hear the= front/center speakers. Also, I can use an effect available into the audio system, that splits the sound around the five speakers, so even in stereo mode I get sound from all the speakers (valid also for Linux confi= g). If I play a DVD with dolby or DTS I use passthrough in windvd and so I ca= n hear the native dolby from 5.1 speakers (it seems DTS is not working, I get no sound). The rows about SB card with lspci -vn are 02:04.0 Class 0401: 1102:0007 Subsystem: 1102:1002 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 16 I/O ports at a000 [size=3D32] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2 02:04.1 Class 0980: 1102:7005 Subsystem: 1102:1002 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32 I/O ports at a400 [size=3D8] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2 cat /proc/asound/version gives Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.7. And also, if I can be of any help for testing I'm available. BTW: are there anywhere some test audio files for dolby/dts (a part from comm dvds)? Thanks in advance.
