Hello, I am not quite sure which mailing list to misuse by asking this question, because it is difficult to locate the source of my problem. Anyway, I have a rather freshly installed debian testing system, with regular kernel 2.6.8 modules installed for my VIA8233/5/7 sound card. With my old (similar) setup in Gentoo, I experienced very good audio quality with this setup. My debian setup was also good with 2.4 and OSS modules (at least as good as OSS gets). But now, after upgrading to 2.6 and Alsa, it seems like almost 2/3 of my MP3 files are rather nastily distorted. There are lots of "bubble sounds" (in lack of a better term). Regular wav and ogg vorbis files are not affected at all. There seems to be little to none correspondence between CPU usage and distortion. I've experienced the bubbly distortion with several different players. Anyone got any ideas? -- Sigve Indregard |
