Hi all: I just got a small MCM590 philips sound system, which among other things, is usb enabled. Nice sound system in fact :-) I'm using FC2 and until today, I had an onboard VIA sound card working fine. I disabled tthe VIA card on my BIOS, so the only sound device attached to my box is this usb device. Everyting looks ok, it gets detected by hotplug and gives messages like it's activated and all, but it refuses to create a sound device. Even kudzu found it but there's no sound card!. Below is all the info I could think of. As usual, maybe is something silly like linking something or changing some parameter, but I'm quite at a loss. Looked up and down the web and usenet vía google, but there is no info whatsoever on this particular device, and everything related to alsa looks ok (methinks), BUT it doesn't work. Haven't checked under XP, but I'm sure it will, since it comes with drivers and all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Rubén -------------- BEGIN CONFIG DUMP ----------------------- [root@nostromo root]# ll /dev/dsp* crw------- 1 neo root 14, 3 feb 23 2004 /dev/dsp lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 sep 18 15:44 /dev/dsp0 -> dsp crw------- 1 neo root 14, 19 feb 23 2004 /dev/dsp1 crw------- 1 neo root 55, 0 feb 23 2004 /dev/dsp56k [root@nostromo root]# ll /dev/mixer* crw------- 1 neo root 14, 0 feb 23 2004 /dev/mixer lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 sep 18 15:44 /dev/mixer0 -> mixer crw------- 1 neo root 14, 16 feb 23 2004 /dev/mixer1 [root@nostromo root]# cat /etc/modprobe.conf # Note: for use under 2.4, changes must also be made to modules.conf! alias ath0 ath_pci alias usb-controller uhci-hcd alias char-major-81-* bttv alias usb-controller1 ehci-hcd alias char-major-195* nvidia alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio enable=0 vid=0471 pid=0111 # OSS/Free portion alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 # card #1 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss [root@nostromo root]# dmesg|less [snip] input: USB HID v1.00 Device [Philips Philips Audio Set] on usb-0000:00:10.2-1.3 usbaudio: device 4 audiocontrol interface 0 has 1 input and 1 output AudioStreaming interfaces usbaudio: valid input sample rate 6400 usbaudio: valid input sample rate 48000 usbaudio: device 4 interface 2 altsetting 1: format 0x80000010 sratelo 6400 sratehi 48000 attributes 0x01 usbaudio: valid output sample rate 6400 usbaudio: valid output sample rate 48000 usbaudio: device 4 interface 1 altsetting 1: format 0x80000010 sratelo 6400 sratehi 48000 attributes 0x01 usbaudio: registered dsp 14,3 usbaudio: constructing mixer for Terminal 20 type 0x0301 usbaudio: registered mixer 14,0 usbaudio: constructing mixer for Terminal 13 type 0x0101 usbaudio: registered mixer 14,16 usb_audio_parsecontrol: usb_audio_state at 11f7d5a0 usbcore: registered new driver audio drivers/usb/class/audio.c: v1.0.0:USB Audio Class driver usbcore: registered new driver snd-usb-audio usb 3-1.4: new full speed USB device using address 5 [root@nostromo root]# less /var/log/messages [snip] Nov 13 22:03:48 nostromo kernel: usb 3-1.3: new full speed USB device using address 6 Nov 13 22:03:48 nostromo kernel: usb 3-1.3: device not accepting address 6, error -71 Nov 13 22:03:49 nostromo kernel: hub 3-1:1.0: Cannot enable port 3.
