nForce2 AC3 passthrough isn't working for me, and others, given past discussion on this list. I'm using a Gigabyte 7N400Pro2 motherboard. However there's a couple of people on the mythtv-users list saying that it does work for them, playing DVDs with Xine etc. For example with an A7N8X (ASUS): http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/82569?do=post_view_threaded#82569 or a Shuttle board: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/82568?do=post_view_threaded#82568 So, what could be different such that it works for these guys? I thought it might be a different nVidia MCP variant, though nVidia's web site is really vague about what variants exist. They talk about the plain APU versus SoundStorm, but the plain APU doesn't appear to have S/PDIF at all so they must all be the SoundStorm(?). ASUS's specs say the A7N8X has an MCP (no mention of SoundStorm), while the A7N8X Deluxe (with SoundStorm) has the MCP-T. The Shuttle SN41G2V2 says MCP-T too. The 7N400Pro2 page just says MCP. Is it the AC'97 codec? There was some speculation that the S/PDIF doesn't even go through the codec. The A7N8X has an ALC650, and so does the Shuttle SN41G2V2, but the 7N400Pro2 I have has an ALC655.
