Hi, I'm having a problem getting sound working on my ASUS A7V333 based PC running the Debian Testing (Linux version 2.6.6-1-386) distribution. The motherboard has a C-Media Audio Controller which seems to be recognized by the OS on boot-up as witnessed by the messages (from dmesg): cmpci: version $Revision: 5.64 $ time 14:18:17 May 12 2004 PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:05.0 (0084 -> 0085) cmpci: found CM8738 adapter at io 0xd800 irq 17 cmpci: chip version = 055 but then it reports: unable to grab ports 0xd800-0xd8ff C-Media PCI: probe of 0000:00:05.0 failed with error -16 The sound system works fine with MS Windows XP Pro, reporting IRQ=17 and I/O Range FE00-FEFF. I'm guessing that the driver is looking at the wrong I/O address but I'm not clear on this and I don't know how to go about confirming that this is the problem, let alone how to fix it. I have tried following the instructions from the ALSA Project Web site for both the snd-cmipci and the snd-via82xx modules but these do not have any effect. I've attached the complete output from the dmesg and lspci commands. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Regards Mike Wheals |
