I have an Intel motherboard with integrated Intel8x0 audio. I recently upgraded from Mandrake 9.2 to Mandrake 10, which uses the 2.6.3 kernel. Under Mandrake 9.2 (using the 2.4.xx kernel), I had no problems with this chipset. Now that I've upgraded, I have had several problems. First, the "Master" mixer control did not show up when using the default Mandrake 2.6.3 kernel, and I had no sound. So, I installed ALSA 1.0.3 (driver, library, utilities). After that, I had the "Master" control and sound, but the mixer had NO effect on the volume. I have used both amixer and alsamixer to try to change volume, to no avail. The mixer allows me to adjust values, but has no effect on sound. Audio is always the same volume, and cannot be controlled. Next, I installed the 2004-03-09 CVS snapshot, just to see if that made any difference. Still, no luck. Exploring this problem further, I noticed lots of the following messages in the output from dmesg: ALSA /usr/local/src/cvs/alsa-driver/pci/intel8x0.c:622: codec_read 0: read timeout for register 0x2c ALSA /usr/local/src/cvs/alsa-driver/pci/intel8x0.c:622: codec_read 0: read timeout for register 0x30 ALSA /usr/local/src/cvs/alsa-driver/pci/intel8x0.c:622: codec_read 0: read timeout for register 0x2e ALSA /usr/local/src/cvs/alsa-driver/pci/intel8x0.c:622: codec_read 0: read timeout for register 0x32 I also found that running "alsactl store" causes the system to freeze, requiring a restart. What logs and configuration files would be useful in debugging this issue? Has anyone experienced something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
