To be more specific, the build needs the kernel headers and perhaps the kernel configuration. These are supplied with most distributions. In Mandrake, it is the kernel-headers rpm that needs to be installed. You might as well also install the kernel source. This is not the .src.rpm for the kernel, which happens to be the source from which the kernel was actually compiled, but the kernel-source rpm (which is really bare, unpatched, and not what was used to actually compile the kernel, kernel source installed in /usr/src. Modules must slot into the kernel in the right place and they can only do so if they know how the kernel is set up. This changes from kernel to kernel. |
