Hi, After giving up on the CMI8738 apparent lack of hardware mixing capability (any other input on that?), we went and got a SB PCI128 which has ES1370 chip. According to the datasheet, this chip mixes up to 3 wave streams and 3 mono streams in hardware. However, the mixing test fails like before. Open up realplayer (uses OSS), start playing a stream, then try to play sound with the sox player to the OSS device, and still no sound from the second program. So.. any idea what the problem is? This is on SuSE 8.1; would they be doing something odd in the setup to limit the streams to 1 or something? Also, do the 1371/1373 support more streams and/or have hardware mixing support with ALSA?
