[Alsa-user] About the noice with snd-via82xx

I've read that several people say that with the latest alsa
driver for the VIA VT8233 AC97 sound card, there is a noise
that disturbs the playback.

I also have this problem. I have noticed however that with mplayer
the playback of a DVD audio track is fine. Not only that, but if
I start another audio application while mplayer is running
(say, xmms playing a .mp3), and then stop mplayer, the other
application works fine for a little bit (at list for the
remaining of the current file).

Maybe mplayer does some special initialization of the sound 
card  that does the trick ?
