Howdy: I need some help with alsa :-( I have a RH 7.2 setup, with the ximian updates and E 0.16.5. I'm also running kernel 2.4.16-0.7 for a usb ethernet driver patch. I have an sblive value card. Since I updated the kernel, the kernel sound drivers have been messed up - occasional odd scratchy sounds instead of the regular sounds, and the mixer channels (4 channel sblive) got messed up as well. I used alsa once before with an older redhat/E setup and an sbawe64 card, and I eventually got it working (esound and all) but this time I'm not having any joy. I compiled the latest alsa stable packages: alsa-driver-0.5.12a alsa-lib-0.5.10b alsa-utils-0.5.10 but I couldn't get Tom's ESound/ALSA patch (src.rpm) to build, so I tried updating to the latest rawhide esound rpm: esound-0.2.23.90-2 But I still can't get any sound. The modules seem to load: [root@rama SRPMS]# lsmod Module Size Used by snd-emu10k1 23120 0 (unused) snd-pcm 31584 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-timer 8400 0 [snd-pcm] snd-emux-mem 1520 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-rawmidi 10048 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-seq-device 3856 0 [snd-rawmidi] snd-ac97-codec 24000 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-mixer 24512 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-ac97-codec] snd 34384 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-emux-mem snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec snd-mixer] soundcore 4112 0 (autoclean) [snd] When I try to load esd, I get the follwoing error: [root@rama SRPMS]# esd audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 44.1Khz, stereo, 16bit failed Trying 44.1Khz, 8bit stereo. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 44.1Khz, stereo, 8bit failed Trying 48Khz, 16bit stereo. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 44.1Khz, stereo, 8bit failed Trying 22.05Khz, 8bit stereo. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 22.05Khz, stereo, 8bit failed Trying 44.1Khz, 16bit mono. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 44.1Khz, mono, 8bit failed Trying 22.05Khz, 8bit mono. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 22.05Khz, mono, 8bit failed Trying 11.025Khz, 8bit stereo. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 11.025Khz, stereo, 8bit failed Trying 11.025Khz, 8bit mono. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 11.025Khz, mono, 8bit failed Trying 8.192Khz, 8bit mono. audio_alsa: no cards found!Audio device open for 8.192Khz, mono, 8bit failed Trying 8Khz, 8bit mono. audio_alsa: no cards found!Sound device inadequate for Esound. Fatal. I'm not sure what's wrong; I followed the INSTALL file, but I'm not sure I understand what to do next or even where to look. Anybody care to help? Please?
