This is fixed now.
This bug revealed two issues:

  *   one must not call the proc alpha::frontmostAndActive during an activateHook because at this point the activated window is not yet considered being at front
  *   one must execute the resumeHook in reverse stack order

In AlphaX when the file for the active window is changed on disk the menu item "Revert To Saved" is active.
In Alpha the status bar says "File for window "..." has changed on disk since last save (the version on
disk is newer)" but the menu item remains inactive.
Sometimes the old behaviour is useful.
For example if a tex file is typesetted while the log file is open it is useful to view quickly the new log file.

In Alpha the status bar says "File for window "..." has changed on disk since last save (the version on 
disk is newer)" but the menu item remains inactive.
Sometimes the old behaviour is useful.
For example if a tex file is typesetted while the log file is open it is useful to view quickly the new log file.

Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce the release of a new version of Alpha. This is Alpha 9.0.4 ("Gacrux <file:///Users/bernardo/Workspace/Devel/Code/AlphaCocoa/Output/Release/9.0.4/AlphaStar.html>") for Mac OS X 10.11 or greater (El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave). 

Beware: Alpha is now compiled using the 10.11 SDK with Xcode 9.4.1. As a consequence, the Maverick (10.9) and Yosemite (10.10) versions of OS X are no longer supported. The latest version of Alpha running on these two systems is 9.0.3. 

All versions of Alpha are named after a star. So, for this new release, meet Gacrux <https://alphacocoa.sourceforge.io/AlphaStar.html>, which is γ Crucis, the γ star of the Crux constellation. 

See at the end of this message, the main changes contained in this new release. 

Please, read the release notes which will be displayed the first time you launch Alpha and can be accessed later from the Help ↣ Developer Help menu.

When no file is opened, the "Find..." menu entry is not disabled, the mouse action  successfully  opens the dialog, but the shortcut (cmd-F) does not work. By contrast, "Hyperserarch" (cmd-alt-ctrl-F) can be opened with both the shortcut and the mouse.

Hi Joachim,
I just tested with version 9.0.3 and it works for me. All four combos behave as expected: they go or select to the beginning or end of the current *physical* line.
Is it possible that you have custom bindings defined somewhere that redefine Cmd-Left or Cmd-Shift-Left ? Could you try the following commands in the Tcl shell :
```
binding list -mod cv -key left
binding list -mod csv -key left
```
The result should be empty for both commands.

I would like to reopen this ticket. Cmd-right and Cmd-shift-right work as expected, but Cmd-left and Cmd-shift-left still jump all the way to the start of the logical line, rather than following the visual line.

I’d be happy to help either or both of you in testing efforts to further integrate Alpha and TeXShop for Alpha as an external editor.  Please just let me know how I can be of assistance.

This script is called alphac and is distributed in the Alpha ExtraTools (and alternatively is present inside the application bundle). Here is the relevant documentation: https://alphacocoa.sourceforge.io/AlphacHelp.html

I’ll have a look into this to see how it fits into TexShop 4.24. I’d be glad to assist Richard Koch in the implementation of a TeXShop to Alpha communication. There is already such a synchronisation between Alpha and Skim.

TeXShop is taking steps toward improving the user experience when working with an external editor.     Changes in the latest version of TeXShop describing this are here:

It would be amazing for TeXShop’s "Go To Error” to take me back to the source of the error in Alpha, or clicking on TeXShop’s preview to take me to the proper place in Alpha.

Here I report two classes of curiosity.  The first relates to the readability of Status Bar messages when certain environment templates are inserted in a LaTeX document.  Specifically, when I insert any of the  enumerate …, itemize …, description …, thebibliography …, and tabular environments, all of which are essentially lists, the Status Bar has a prompt asking for list length but the text is a very feint grey, which is extremely difficult to read.  For all the other environments in the LaTeX>Environments menu the text displayed in the Status Bar is what I would expect: clear, sharp, and dark.  It would be great if the nominated environments also produced dark, readable prompts in the Status Bar (when selected).

Further to this, without having any deep insight into how it works, many environments are set using a generic call to ‘TeX::wrapEnvironment’, circa line 525 of latexEngine.tcl.  There the Status Bar prompt is created using a ‘set msgText’ command.  Lists, on the other hand, seem to be built using the TeX::BuildListBody proc (latexEnvironments.tcl circa line 308).  Here Status Bar messages are created using either a prompt::simple command or a prompt::var command (in the case of the TeX::thebibliography proc, circa line 969 of latexEnvironments.tcl).  That said, the boxes use the prompt::simple command and they work fine.  That is as much sleuthing as it seems sensible for me to embark on.  I hope that it is helpful.
 
The scond curiosity relates to the <insert Figure environment>.  To see this, select LaTeX>Environments>figure.  This throws a dialog box with the invitation to “Choose a macro:”, with includegraphics highlighted as the default.  Now select the Cancel button.  What I get is

   \cancelled{}
   \caption{}
   \label{fig:}
\end{figure}
 
With \cancelled{} in place of \includegraphics{} (which is what I would get if had selected OK instead).  This is clearly a bug of some description, whereas the other is merely irritating and at most an RFE.

Additional fix: fixed missing savePostHook in method revertToContentsOfURL. The savePostHook is responsible for resetting the Modified flag in AlphaTcl.

In AlphaX when the file for the active window is changed on disk the menu item "Revert To Saved" is active.
In Alpha the status bar says "File for window "..." has changed on disk since last save (the version on 
disk is newer)" but the menu item remains inactive.
Sometimes the old behaviour is useful.
For example if a tex file is typesetted while the log file is open it is useful to view quickly the new log file.

This is fixed now. From the developer's point of view, the *TableView* and *OutlineView* controls defined with the [view] command now have a new option called *-selectProc* which lets you declare a Tcl proc to invoke each time the selection changes.
Changes committed to the repository ([rev. 1641](https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/code/1641/)). *The core must be rebuilt.*

Thank you for reporting. I can reproduce the problem. I'll look into it. Indeed currently there is no support for the navigation keys in table views or outline views.

I realized that the menu item remains disabled only if I switch to the log file via keyboard.
When I switch by clicking on the log window Revert To Saved is active.

thanks for the recipe. This is the exact course of actions I had taken and I just tried again. In my case, in the end, the Revert To Saved item is enabled as expected. I can't reproduce the bug. The key proc here is alpha::modifiedCheck defined in alphaHooks.tcl. Is it possible that you have a redefinition thereof somewhere ?

Concerning the second issue you report in your last comment, as a coincidence, I have fixed it yesterday (see rev. 1625<https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/code/1625/>).

Here I report two classes of curiosity.  The first relates to the readability of Status Bar messages when certain environment templates are inserted in a LaTeX document.  Specifically, when I insert any of the  enumerate …, itemize …, description …, thebibliography …, and tabular environments, all of which are essentially lists, the Status Bar has a prompt asking for list length but the text is a very feint grey, which is extremely difficult to read.  For all the other environments in the LaTeX>Environments menu the text displayed in the Status Bar is what I would expect: clear, sharp, and dark.  It would be great if the nominated environments also produced dark, readable prompts in the Status Bar (when selected).

Further to this, without having any deep insight into how it works, many environments are set using a generic call to ‘TeX::wrapEnvironment’, circa line 525 of latexEngine.tcl.  There the Status Bar prompt is created using a ‘set msgText’ command.  Lists, on the other hand, seem to be built using the TeX::BuildListBody proc (latexEnvironments.tcl circa line 308).  Here Status Bar messages are created using either a prompt::simple command or a prompt::var command (in the case of the TeX::thebibliography proc, circa line 969 of latexEnvironments.tcl).  That said, the boxes use the prompt::simple command and they work fine.  That is as much sleuthing as it seems sensible for me to embark on.  I hope that it is helpful.
 
The scond curiosity relates to the <insert Figure environment>.  To see this, select LaTeX>Environments>figure.  This throws a dialog box with the invitation to “Choose a macro:”, with includegraphics highlighted as the default.  Now select the Cancel button.  What I get is

With \cancelled{} in place of \includegraphics{} (which is what I would get if had selected OK instead).  This is clearly a bug of some description, whereas the other is merely irritating and at most an RFE.

When using the "physics" package in pdfLaTeX (a standard package included in distribution) I get the following error upon compilation:
"Unbalanced parentheses in the log file could not be resolved.  Please report this, annexing the log file to the report."

It happens on each run of pdfLaTeX and on all computers that I have been able to test this on.

Alpha 9.0 displayed a dialog stating that 9.0.1 is available, containing a button "Download and Install". When clicked, Alpha 9.0 downloads Alpha_9.0.1.dmg.zip [to the system-default download folder] and then, on completion, displays a "Download completed" message in the message bar and triggers the system alert sound. No install. A minor pest, but it would be nice to fix this for future versions so update functions as desired.

Paste this report into an Alpha window with hard wrap
fillColumn=64. Resize the window to approximately 75 chars wide.
Make the window short enough vertically, say 15 lines high.
Scroll to place the Q line near the middle of the window. Now
start writing with short words after the Qs. At the moment the
end of the line (marked 888) hits the edge of the window, the
window focus suddenly jumps, making the active line the last
visible line of the window.

When selecting "Show invisible characters" from the leftmost menu in the text window, the invisible characters are not shown. However, the menu item text changes to "Hide invisible characters", just as on would expect
(and back to "Show..." if selected again).
