Hi, The following patch adds a --window <wid> switch to the command line. It enables to choose the application to dock out of its window id, instead of clicking or launching a new command. It can be useful for scripts embeded in a xterm to play around with alltray (thanks to the WINDOWID environment variable). I don't know if anyone else has even heard of (let alone uses) Oracle Calendar (formerly Corporate Time), but it doesn't work with alltray. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ocal/index.html Unfortunately, my place of employment has a central oracle calendar server, so simply choosing a better calendar program ends up generating lots of extra exporting/importing/syncing steps. I'm using alltray version 0.69, installed from the newest Debian unstable packages. I apologize in advance for all the debug output copied below.=20 When I try to run Oracle Calendar within alltray (either via `alltray ocal`, or via editing the 'ocal' wrapper shell script to call alltray), Oracle Calendar starts iconified, and (with the -d option) alltray outputs the following debug info: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- command without args: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal basename: Ocal command: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal win->title_time: 0 win->notray: 0 HAVE MANAGER WINDOW win->libsyp_window id: 58720259 execute program: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal lib is here: /usr/lib old preload: (null) preload string: LD_PRELOAD=3D/usr/lib/liballtray.so.0.0.0 wait for window liballtraynomap_filter event: ClientMessage got window from lib: 65011800 found child window: 65011800 child have pid: 14233 need to reparent leader change child size loop child size loop The program 'alltray' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 131 error_code 9 request_code 14 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If I use the --sync option, I get the following: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- command without args: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal basename: Ocal command: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal win->title_time: 0 win->notray: 0 HAVE MANAGER WINDOW win->libsyp_window id: 58720259 execute program: /home/tekniklr/OracleCalendar/bin/Ocal lib is here: /usr/lib old preload: (null) preload string: LD_PRELOAD=3D/usr/lib/liballtray.so.0.0.0 wait for window liballtraynomap_filter event: ClientMessage got window from lib: 69206104 found child window: 69206104 child have pid: 15043 need to reparent leader change child size loop child size loop get_window_icon with size request: 30x30 ERROR in read_rgb_icon rgb failed src_pixmap is none need fallback icon command_menu->len: 0 have manager window.... now creat_tray..... get_window_icon with size request: 24x24 ERROR in read_rgb_icon rgb failed src_pixmap is none need fallback icon update window title net_wm_visible_name failed net_wm_name failed title: Sign-in win->title: Sign-in icon_window_configure_event: 1x20 icon_window_configure_event: 24x20 update_tray_icon: real plug size: 24x20 resize =3D TRUE get_window_icon with size request: 20x20 ERROR in read_rgb_icon rgb failed src_pixmap is none need fallback icon icon_window_configure_event: 20x20 update_tray_icon: real plug size: 20x20 resize =3D TRUE get_window_icon with size request: 20x20 ERROR in read_rgb_icon rgb failed src_pixmap is none need fallback icon property notify property notify property notify property notify property notify property notify destroy notify destroy_all_and_exit child already dead ----------------------------------------------------------------------- It appears to me that the problem is due to alltray not being able to find a suitable icon, which is odd because my window manager (XFCE) displays one in the window decorations without a problem. --=20 /\_(\/)_/\ Teri Solow <ts...@te...> | '' | http://terisolow.com \(^^--^^)/ =09 One Bell System - it used to work before they installed the Dimension! |

Hey yachi, I just wanted to let you know that dragging tabs around while using alltray (0.69) works for me. I'm also using Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Feisty Fawn. Have you tried disabling all your extensions using -safe-mode? If not, try starting firefox as "firefox -safe-mode". Hi! I'm Kfir Ozer from the technical support of Zend, first i want to thank you for creating this excellent program, it makes my life a lot easier, i need to use many programs that do not provide 'notification-area' applet, and this alltray suites my needs. I'm using Gentoo Linux 64 Bit with Xorg 7.1 and Beryl 0.2.0RC1 with emerald window manager (gnome based) and nautilus. It seems that each new popup window that the program creates is shown behind the problem, i can really notice this problem when i use alltray on FireFox. each new popup window appears behind the actual firefox window, i need to switch windows each time in order to see it. I want to do all i can to help you fix it, i want to recommend my all company to use this program but i need it to be beryl fixed first. please assist me! :) |

I admit it's not a very important case, but you should probably do something
a little more graceful than a core dump. The bug can be reproduced by
running alltray with a command line option but without a program name, for
example `alltray -s' or `alltray -st'. I'm using version 0.69 . Here's a
patch:

I've been using AllTray for some time now but I've noticed something lately that is just a minor annoyance. If there is a quick fix I'd appreciate a suggestion. Basically, I launch AllTray as a prefix to my apps. ie; alltray evolution, or alltray flock %u, etc. Well, when it first launches I notice the app is 1/4 of its full size. I have to maximize the window each time to get started. Is this a bug? Is it a setting that I've missed somewhere or something that I can easily fix? Appreciate any tips. --=20 Christer Edwards President, Ubuntu-Utah chr...@ub... http://ubuntu-utah.org |

Hello there, we also wnat to use alltray for notifications. I think that could be done by either change a icon while a program is running or by the use of animated icons. As far as I know there a just png files allowed. And png doesn't allow animation, does it? But during the installation of alltray V0.69, there was an blinking icon! So how could that be? I just noticed that if you try and do --version or --help without an X display running (say, as root) you get the usual "Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display". I know this is trivial seeming as alltray is a GUI applications, but i thought it was a little odd for options that don't need a display open to still try to open one... If you want I'll submit a diff instead of just reporting it :P Otherwise, awesome work - alltray has to be one of the most useful simple utilities i have come across - I am one of those people who likes to keep the taskbar empty of background applications (mail clients etc.) --=20 Alan Briolat <al...@do...> |

It seems that alltray fails to build against the x86_64 version of Fedora Rawhide. I don't have direct access to a x86_64 box, so any diagnostics will have to be run remotely on my part. Hi!
I'm attaching a patch that adds beep-media-player support to alltray.
BMP seems to load the equalizer as the first window, then the=20
playlist; and at last the main control window. In the current=20
sources (0.60) alltray adds to tray the equalizer window (being it=20
the first one), not the main window. This looks very odd to the end=20
user as only the eq hides in the tray!.
I have patched this by:
* main.c: Set win->xmms=3DTRUE for beep-media-player, as besides what=20
I described above, both programs shouldn't be too different.
* child.c: Wait for the main bmp window and skip the others, which=20
are in turn added to win->xmms_playlist_window_xlib and=20
win->xmms_equalizer_window_xlib.
* child.c: Disable setenv("ALLTRAY_XMMS", "YES",1), because it=20
seems to prevent bmp from running. I haven't look into this and=20
don't know what's causing it.
* trayicon.c, utils.c: Add some checks to see if bmp or xmms is=20
running, and only read the inline icon for the second.
* utils.c: Don't set Window decorations unless the program it's run=20
in borderless mode. Without this, bmp saves wrong info about it's=20
window position, resulting in a strange offset from the eq and=20
playlist the next time is run.
* utils.c: For some reason the bmp equalizer window appears taskbar=20
when the tray icon is clicked for the first time, so I added a=20
work-around for that: the bmp eq is hidden from the taskbar, and=20
the main bmp window is made visible instead. That doesn't seem to=20
happen if first_click=3DFALSE.
I haven't coded in Linux before, and I still don't understand how=20
windows are handled in gnome/kde, so I hope I didn't break=20
anything, specially xmms support.
Btw, In child.c there's some commented code on something else I was=20
playing with: hide the windows instead of minimizing them. I though=20
on that because the minimize effect doesn't look that nice in gnome=20
considering the window isn't displaying in the taskbar.=20
Unfortunately, that seems to break show_hide_window() right now.
Hope it works as intended. Cheers,
NeTo

Hi all, This is my first post, and I subscribe only since 2 minutes, so if the question was already asked, please apologise :-) I use alltray since several month, it's simply a great app, but if an option exist to choose which app must be displayed on only one desktop (I mean virtual desktop) and which other on all desktop, it make me very happy :-) I'm not a developer, so I haven't look the code yet, perhaps I gonna to look it in future, but I can't plan it for now, so I'm asking it here ...
