Many thanks for all your input about the SoundFont issue!

The results:

Option 1 (do nothing) got three votes.
Option 2 (embedded soundfonts) got no votes.
Option 3 (multiple embedded) got no votes.
Option 4 (proper SoundFont loading) got one vote.
Option 5 (load a custom format) got two and a half votes.
Option 6 (use a separate addon) got seven and a half votes.

One person argued strongly in favour of supporting multiple banks within
each SoundFont, nobody else felt this to be important.

So George, the final choice is of course up to you, but the consensus
seems to be that the current driver is already perfect and you should
start working on your separate lib instead :-)
