Did you check that it's in the modules.lst file in /usr/local/lib/allegro/4.2 ? Have you tried running the program work when run as root? I have noticed recently that I seem to be losing rw permissions on /dev/svga with annoying regularity. While that doesn't affect ZGV for some reason, it often crashes Allegro programs.
