Mike, I don't think you're making many people smile by implying a lot of Microsoft haters on the list. You'd be surprised how many people are actually using Visual C++ for Windows ports of their programs (even if they do hate Microsoft). MFC is a library of classes commonly used with MSVC, so it stands to reason that since Allegro works on MSVC (I am told by the website :) that you can use MFC along side it. -nco ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike G." <the...@ho...> To: "Allegro List" <al...@ca...> Sent: Monday, December 04, 2000 2:03 PM Subject: [AL] Allegro/Windows Question > Hi, it's me again. > > I was wondering if I could use Allegro with MFC. > > ::ducks behind chair to dodge the flying rocks from micro$oft haters:: > > I wanted to access the datafile functions, but still provide a nice user > friendly atmosphere. If you offer the user a list of drivers (or they select one in allegro.cfg) it seems sensible to me to allow DIGI_NONE to be selected, and then it should not give an error on reserving more than 0 voices. > Dummy driver functions are provided under the name of 'digi_none', and these > are installed whenever no other sound driver is successfully installed. > Calling the sound functions is perfectly safe, but don't expect voices to > remember what you tell them :-) Ah, that's good. That means I don't need to let my program stop on failure of install_sound. I would like to see that added to the documentation: I've been looking a long time in the docs to solve this problem but I could not conclude if this was safe to do. I guess sound is one of the few cases where this is applicable (graphics or timers are too vital for a game to continue if they fail, usually), but it would help if it were mentioned in the docs.
