Smacker can "create" animations (smk/flc) from a list of graphic 
files, so all you really need is Smacker, POV-Ray (for your 3D 
animations) and a paint program (for 2D stuff), all of which are free.

You might be able to find better programs, but you'll amost certainly 
have to pay for them.

Smacker also has lots of very detailed control over the animation 
produced (pallete used, compression, sound) although these are 
most use full for smk files.

Most of the new sound cards I've seen (especially any PCI cards) 
are 16-bit and work fine under windows since they come with 
drivers. Unfortunatley in DOS they are only SB Pro compatible so 
we're stuck with 8-bit sound.

Heh.. I was referring to being able to create FLC's by 
using animation software.  I figured this individual was
after more than a conversion tool.  But as you said, it
can convert a series of images to a flc file.. but they'll
still need a good animation package to create the images.
(unless they decide to hand draw everything)

sorry, I misunderstood you, I thought you meant the composing of the
notes the orchestra played.  My TV at the time was definately mono.
