Interesting.  So perhaps there is something wrong with the card, e.g.,
a memory location that is not used by the older firmware but is used
by the newer?  Sounds like a long shot, but it does crash consistently
with the newer version while it runs with 1.x.  Maybe another clue: I
don't think it crashes until it hears the access point.  If (with the
new firmware) I leave the antenna off then I can load the DOS or Windows
driver.  ACU says (of course) that the card is not associated.  If I
then connect the antenna ACU says that the radio is shut off and any attempt
to restart puts ACU in a funny state where the mouse moves *very* slowly.
