Sounds familar. The layout of the structures used to pass
information from the driver to iwconfig changed at some point.
Curiously, one of the elements which moved was the version number !

So with some version mismatches between driver and iwconfig,
you will get random garbage reported for the version #.

Solution: get a driver/iwconfig combination which match.

Most likely this will require you to build the driver and iwconfig
yourself.

Or you can use the /proc interface and dispense with iwconfig.
