The windows driver interface have two bits to set: wep (on or off) and authentication (open or shared). The problem is that the shared authentication is only available in wep is on, so you have three possibilities. Thus there are three selections for wep: open (wep off authentication open), encrypt (wep on authentication open), and shared (wep on authentication shared). I would try getting things working with WEP off on both machines. That way you get all the SSID and adhoc issues worked out. ben Christopher Smith <x...@xm...>@csl.cse.ucsc.edu on 02/25/2000 10:00:38 PM Sent by: air...@cs... To: ai...@en... cc: Subject: [Aironet] Problems w/Linux - Windows comms with Dell PCI Wireless card Before I discovered this list I already fired this off to the driver's maintainer, but I'll repost it here: I just got a bunch of Dell systems 4800LT's. I'm struggling to get them working between my Linux box and the Windows boxes. The eth1 device seems be there just fine, but I am not registering to the Windows machines (or vice versa). I'm confused about the WEP option: there are three choices (open, encrypt, shared), and I'm not sure which one works with the Windows driver (it appears to ONLY use encryption). Until I turned WEP to "open", the card's status light did not come on, so I feel like "open" must somehow (however illogical) be right. ;-) I'm also not sure which modulation type to use to talk to the Windows systems, as it's not clear to me what they're using. Finally, when I'm playing around with the /proc/aironet/Config and related files, it's common for me to get 'weird status 10'. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into that. Thanks in advance for all the help. These seem to be cool cards, but they'll seem a lot cooler once I've got them working. ;-) --Chris _______________________________________________ Aironet mailing list - Ai...@cs... http://csl.cse.ucsc.edu/mailman/listinfo/aironet |
