#1 Install and usage problems

Hi

I'm trying to use Afick v3.5.0 on Windows 7.

I have cygwin installed. I have Active perl 5.12.4 and according to the Perl package manager, I have Tk version 804.029.

When I try to run Afick (C:\Program Files (x86)\afick>perl afick.pl -c windows.conf), I get the following error:
CRITICAL : can not find Afick::Aliases : Can't locate Afick/Aliases.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl64/site/lib C:/Perl64/lib . ./lib) at (eval 23) line 2.

Please can you help me fix the error?

how do you install afick : from zip file or from afick-setup ?

the recommended method is afick-setup : it will install the libraries as expected by afick code.

ps : the last afick release is 3.5.1 , not 3.5.0
and the 3.5.2 is currently in test, and will be released soon.

I installed from Download afick-setup-3.5.0.exe. According to sourceforge that is the latest version. Wait, if I look in the files list, I can see afick-setup-3.5.1.exe. I'll try that. I wonder why the earlier setup didn't install Aliases.pm ... I'll post again after I try afick-setup-3.5.1.exe

OK, I uninstalled 3.5.0, and installed 3.5.1. When I afick tried to launch itself post-installation, an error appeared because it couldn't find perl512.dll. That's because I also uninstalled ActivePerl 5.12 and installed 5.24. I rebooted Windows again, re-installed afick, but am still getting the same error, so before I do anything else, I need to stop afick or my system from looking for perl512.dll.

If you have any ideas, that would be great!

I uninstalled and re-installed Activeperl and Afick. ppm is now telling me that there is no Tk available for ActivePerl 5.22.

Any idea which ActivePerl (64bit) has a Tk available? This is starting to drive me a bit crazy.

http://www.bribes.org/perl/ppmdir.html shows a Tk (Version 804.033) that is OK for ActivePerl 5.22 but when I try [ppm install http://www.bribes.org/perl/ppm/Tk-AbstractCanvas.ppd] I get:
ppm install failed: The PPD does not provide code to install for this platform

Any ideas?

OK, well after trying to install Tk seperately for about an hour, I decided to try to re-install afick, just in case something had changed. This time I noticed that the post-install script managed to install Tk for me! :) and this time the application opened in the GUI. I'm now init-ing the DB.

I think you should note in the installation page that afick itself installs Tk. I wasted a lot of time on that.

Yes, you are right : I do not update this doc, when I change the afick installer.
It is fixed.
I also fix the default download link to 3.5.1

just fot information, the 3.5.2 version will be release soon, and fixed some problems and warnings on windows.
