Image registration with variable transformations (elastic, diffeomorphic, diffeomorphisms, unbiased) and similarity metrics (landmarks, cross-correlation, mutual information, etc). Image segmentation with priors & nonparametric, multivariate models.
*** Current ANTs code and support is hosted at Github ***
The best way to get ANTs is to compile from source. Build instructions are here
https://github.com/ANTsX/ANTs/wiki/Compiling-ANTs-on-Linux-and-Mac-OS
Binaries (updated infrequently) available here:
https://github.com/stnava/ANTs/releases
Older code and binaries remain available here on SourceForge (1.9x). If you are new to ANTs you should probably go to Github and get the latest code.

I think the only reason those tools are so popular is because there is no other alternative. The documentation is fragmentary and very incomplete, the source code is a complete disaster - functions with over 1000 lines of code each are not a rarity. The only way you can use it is through console tools. Forget about API (even though it's written in C++) because they would have to rewrite the whole thing. The console tools are slow and very bugged. This is not something you could use in a professional environment - at best it's something you could use for some experiments to write a paper, but even then it's a shame there are no better alternatives.Reply from Advanced Normalization Tools ( ANTs )
