Hi all, Just letting you know that in Simon's absence I have just released a new version of the AdPlug core library (v2.2) and with it AdPlay/UNIX (v1.7). It's been almost three years since the last release, but better late than never! Details about what's changed can be accessed from the homepage: http://adplug.sourceforge.net/ Hopefully the DOS version and Winamp plugin will also be updated soon. In AdPlug's home page, there is a download link that points to a site containing a version of MAME AdPlug. However, following that link reaches a web site that is rendered in HTML source code instead of actual web page. Although that site is supposedly owned by AdPlug Winamp maintainer Simon Peter, but the e-mail address from the AdPlug Winamp plugin is unreachable. |

Version 2.0 of the AdPlug core library has been released! The latest released versions of AdPlay/UNIX and AdPlug/XMMS already support this version. AdPlug/Winamp and AdPlay/DOS will follow shortly. From the NEWS: - New format support: - MSC: AdLib MSCplay - RIX: Softstar RIX OPL Music Format - Added OPL3 support: - RAW: RdosPlay RAW - Dual OPL2 and OPL3 support (OPL3 only in non-free version). - This version is not binary-compatible with older versions! All linked applications need to be recompiled. - License change: Ken Silverman permitted to relicense his emulator under the LGPL. It is included in the free distribution now. - Changes to IMF player: - Supporting Adam Nielsen's tag format now. - Files ending in .IMF now have a default timer refresh rate of 560Hz. All other files have a rate of 700Hz. Please rename your files accordingly or use the AdPlug database. - CMF player supports rhythm mode now. - S3M player handles repeating commands correctly now. - MS Visual C++ and OpenWatcom build systems not actively supported anymore. They are still available in the contrib directory though. |

What I meant was loop information in the header. (eg: After x events, go back to address xx in file and continue playing from there). The raw format does not have title, author, ripper, copyright, company, game, comments.. in it's header. I think I will create a similar format that will use .rax (RAw Extended) file extension. The only difference with the raw format is that it will have a bigger header. It will be easy to add support for it in adplug's raw file player. Hi, I have captured the music from a few games using DosBox. I've written simple command line tools to clean the files (mostly remove the menu music before stage music). One thing that .dro files seem to lack is song name, author, company, etc.. information. A way to specify a loop point for endless game music would be useful to. Writing a tool to convert a .dro to a better format is not a problem for me, but I dont know which format to choose, and due to the nature of the dro format, I could be complicated for some formats (instruments definitions and tracks). So I figured this mailing list would be a good place to ask: Is there a simple format supported by adplug that is made of raw opl commands with delays between them (just like .dro files) but with the additional features (headers) I would like to have? It just has >got 2 more registers to write to. you are right, but there is one issue, and i have discovered how to get it working, register 5 in opl3 bank two turns the opl3 mode on and off, setting this to zero makes the plugin produce sound. this must have been turned on in driver initialisation someplace. i can hear some really old tunes now played back with amazing retro quality! cheers darron |

In the meantime since posting, i have written a small desktop applet which utilises the giveio.sys kernel driver to write to the fm801 ports. the registers mentioned do indeed affect the synth volume, so my applet can vary the volume level when playing back a midi in media player for example. I also wrote some quick code to mangle all the voices simultaneuously at a click of a button (changing their waveform), this proves that the opl3 registers are also at their correct place as the midi voices distort momentarily when playing in media player. however, winamp still fails to make any noise on the fm801 with opl mods, so I can only assume at this time, that there is a problem regarding the plugin's method of driving the core player on my setup. >Good luck on your experiments! Hello I've just started to write adplug support for open cubic player, but I have a small issue. 50% of the songs produce a lot of noise, which adplay plays nice. So if anybody with experience with adplug can assist please, give me some help. Current snapshot is here http://labs.nixia.no/ocp-0.1.7.2.tar.bz2 I've started to make some changes to ocp core to make adplug support (som= e more changes to core is still needed). When I get the sound to work without issues, I will start to make some output. Any tips on engine stat= s I grab out of the emulator is welcome (for instance frequency / noise-pattern / volume / other info per OPL channel). The adplug plugin is located inside playopl directory inside the tar-ball mentioned above. I haven't updated configure script yet, so it doesn't check yet if adplug is installed. Stian Skjelstad |

Hi there. I have been playing around with an FM801 based card and recently installed winamp with adplug on an XP machine. I have set things up but fail to get any sound from the OPL3 device within the FM801. From literature obtained online about the FM801 ( FM801-Linux.doc ) we can see that it has it's OPL registers at offset 0x0068 consequently after installing the porttalk driver I informed the winamp plugin to utilise the addresses found at 0x9068, where 0x9000 was the base address obtained from the windows driver infomation applet for the Fm801 device. I may be just assuming too much expecting this to work so simply, but the winamp plugin did not complain about not finding an OPL3 device, so perhaps I can reasonably assume that this is working as I anticipated. With regard to no sound, however, it is also interesting to note that the FM801 has other registers outside the OPL spec which adjust it's volume and indeed enable the FM synthesizer. These registers are obviously not adjusted by the plugin. Anyway, after this massive preamble I reach a question for the list: I would like to update any code locally for the plugin/core to determine if the other registers mentioned above are indeed stopping noise emanating from the fm801 or not, hence I would like some advice from knowledgable adplug coders as to what source files I need to play with to try and get this to make a sound. ScummVM's OPL2 emulator is identical to the one, we're using, so this can't be the issue. And AdPlug's replayers shouldn't be too processing-intensive, too, at least by far not as much as ScummVM's gfx-rendering. Do you got any profiling tools at hand? Simon |
