Things are currently broken, but the intention is that interested applications (xscreensaver? presentation apps? power applets?) register with libpower, and can both receive notifications when a PM event happens, as well as being able to make requests. For example, a presentation app would be able to request that no screen blanking occur. libpower abstracts the given PM interface (APM, ACPI, or something else) from the applications.
