Juliusz: Very interesting data. Try commenting out the calls to acpi_battery_get_info() and _status(). Let me know the outcome... -- Paul -----Original Message----- From: Juliusz Chroboczek [mailto:jc...@pp...] Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2002 8:56 AM To: acp...@li... Subject: [ACPI] ACPI on Presario 711: very weird behaviour (and partial solution) Dear all, Some of you may remember that I had trouble using ACPI power management on a Compaq Presario 711 FR (AMD Duron 790, VIA KT133/KM133). In short, the machine appeared never to run in C2. I'm using stock 20020404, without Dominik's low-latency patches. Checking the ACPI power management timer indicates that it is accurate. Measuring time spent in C2 indicates that C2 is never invoked for more than 17 us -- up to measurement innacuracies, this indicates that C2 is never entered. Strangely enough, C2 works fine if I do *not* modprobe either acpi_battery nor acpi_ac (fan, thermal and button cause no problems). Once acpi_battery or acpi_ac is modprobed, the machine refuses to enter C2; a warm boot then fails to clear whatever condition disables C2: in order to get C2 to work again, a cold boot (from S5) is necessary. I have started commenting out selected sections of acpi_battery to find out what it is exactly that kills C2 -- no conclusions yet. Any hints are welcome. Juliusz P.S. The machine also has a nice _PCT and _PSS in the SSDT. The _PSS contains three performance states with reasonable looking values; the _PCT, however, declares both registers as fixed-feature registers (space 0x7F). The ACPI spec is not very clear about what that means -- does it simply mean ``otherwise unspecified machine-specific magic''? If so, does anyone have access to Duron PowerNow documentation? It should not be difficult to hook such code into Linux ACPI. P.P.S. I'm still not subscribed to acpi-devel -- please be so kind as to CC me. _______________________________________________ Acpi-devel mailing list Acp...@li... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/acpi-devel |
