Not working under windows 10 - Funktioniert nicht unter Windows 10
Audible AAX to MP3 Converter
Brought to you by:
aaxman
The program is installed and can be started. But the program runs only parts of a second and the mp3 files are only 1 Kb.
Das Programm läßt sich installieren und starten. Aber nach dem auswählen des Soundfiles und dem Starten des Konvertierens läuft das Programm nur einen Sekundenbruchteil und erstellt eine 1 Kb große mp3 Datei.
I also tried the compatibility mode of Windows 7 and Windows XP 2 SP, same result.
Also the same if i start in administration mode.
Auch im Kompatibilitätsmodus Windows 7 und Windows XP 2 SP das gleiche Resultat.
Auch das Starten als Administrator ändert nichts.
i got it working using a different package of dlls. If you copy those into the proper directories, encoding works like a charm again.

Sorry, it seems, that i'm to stupid to get admin-rights in Windows 10 to copy these files in the system-folders.
i'm not quite sure if it'll work, but you could try copying the files from the rar-folder directly into the folder you installed aax2mp3 to. Just keep in mind using the right subfolder (system32 or wow64) depending on the version of your OS.
aax2mp3 isn't installed, its working as a portable version without installing.
So it seems, that it is not working under Windows 10 for the moment.
as i said before, i got it working using windows 10 x64. And by "installed" i just meant "copy the files to the same folder where aax2mp3 is in".
2.) Dann das Update starten (Hilfe -> Update).
3.) Die Wiedergabe einer Datei im audible-manager starten.
4.) Mich in dem dann öffnenden Fenster erneut einloggen.
5.) Dann den aax2mp3 starten.
6.) Nun klappts.
Solution:
1.) Deinstall Audible-Manager and install new.
2.) Starting the Update of the audible-manager (help->update)
3.) Start playing a file in the audible manager.
4.) Now log in.
5.) Start the aax2mp3-program.
6.) Now its working.
I hope, this works for all with the same problem.

It surprised the heck out of me, but what you wrote worked. I re-installed Audible Manager, logged in to Audible Manager, started listening to an Audible book from inside Audible Manager and then went to AAXtomp3, started it, loaded the same file I was already listening to, and started the conversion. It ran! And without me having to move any DLL files around. Go figure!
Actually, I have found that after the re-install of Audible Manager, I do not have to have an imported file open in AM in order for AAXtoMP3 work on it. No file needs to be open in AM. I suspect that what was really the problem was that after my recent "upgrade" to Windows 10, the registration of the PC as an Audible-enabled listening device had been lost and re-installing AM, where you have to enter your Audible account information again, re-enabled the registration. In other words, I thing there was file protection/ownership issue which prevented AAXtoMP3 from working. Nothing to do with missing DLL files.
I just want to add something because it took me a lot of time to figure that out. The reason reinstalling works is because you deactivate and then reactivate the PC. However since activations are limited that may not work if
a) You use more than one device with Audible manager at once
b) You have re-installed Windows on your pc/laptop without first deactivating the device
c) You have an old device you don´t use anymore that is still activated
I am not sure if just deactivating old devices is enough(should be), but since with a reinstalled/ broken device deactivating it isn´t possible you have to contact their support so that they deactivate them for you. Unlike the Windows 10 app you cant deactivate the Audible manager through your amazon settings directly.
So if the problems persist after reinstalling and reactivating the audible manager chances are you have to deactivate some other devices. If you cant access those you have to contact the audible support. In my case just asking them to deactivate those old devices worked fine.
It seems that if you´re exeeding the limit of activations the audible manager might actually allow you to listen to your books IN the manager but is not saving the authorisation on your pc in such a way the aax converter is able to use it
hope that helps
Some additional information. I ran into the unhandled exception a few days ago.
I think this is not due to a windows update, but due to Audible decommissioning the manager, as referenced here: https://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9227/~/what-should-i-do-if-i-receive-an-error-message-activating-audible-manager%2C
I can confirm that no matter what I tried, reauthorizing the download manager just did not work.
Installing the new App and autorizing it did not fix it either, but here is what did (for me, anyway): when I authorized iTunes for importing the books (which I never do, took me a while to think to try it), aax2mp3 was working again as usual.
Hope this helps somebody else.
Kai, Du bist Klasse!! Dein Tip hat schließlich funktioniert! Vielen Dank!
Wäre ich wohl nie drauf gekommen.
Verstehe aber immer noch nicht, warum es vor 3 Jahren geklappt hat und ich nun diese Maßnahme brauche..
Kai, thanks a ton! After installing iTunes and authorizing it to play Audible-titles, the AAXToMP3 started working properly (previously it had just generated 1kb files) :)
