Guys, I've been thinking about moving Jetty 6 and beyond to Codehaus. Several reasons for this: + subversion + strong emphasis on java + smaller more focused aggregation of projects than sourceforge. + smaller more focused group of developers on codehaus, so we can perhaps gain more assistance. + ruled by a despot rather than infathomable support lists. closer to the jetty administration model :-) + good time to clean up the committers list etc. + they will have lots of spare capacity as some projects may be moving to apache from codehaus. Are there any objections to this move or at least starting the conversation? If you are a committer and ar interested in maintaining that for Jetty 6 - please speak up. cheers |

Only expected from a Haus "tenant" ;o) Personally, I find SF a bit 'cumbersome' to operate, and places like CodeHaus and ASF has a much more streamlined working environment for the people who does the work. So, I think if a move helps Greg to continue the great work of Jetty, then move. Barely a need to ask ;o) IIUIC, Bob can also accommodate strong projects to utilize the infrastructure, but outside of the CodeHaus banner. Check with Bob, if interest exist. Cheers Niclas |

I'm not a Jetty committer (only user), but I am an Apache committer (Lucene). From my experience with Lucene at Apache, I would guess that Jetty may benefit from moving to Codehaus. Lucene moved to ASF from SF about 5-6 years ago, and our time in Apache Jakarta and now Lucene (top-level project) has been good, and I imagine Codehaus provides a similar environment. +1 Otis --- Greg Wilkins <gr...@mo...> wrote: > > Guys, > > I've been thinking about moving Jetty 6 and beyond to Codehaus. > Several reasons for this: > > + subversion > + strong emphasis on java > + smaller more focused aggregation of projects than sourceforge. > + smaller more focused group of developers on codehaus, so we can > perhaps gain more assistance. > + ruled by a despot rather than infathomable support lists. > closer to the jetty administration model :-) > + good time to clean up the committers list etc. > + they will have lots of spare capacity as some projects may be > moving to apache from codehaus. > > Are there any objections to this move or at least starting the > conversation? > > If you are a committer and ar interested in maintaining that for > Jetty 6 - please speak up. > > cheers > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc. OK Guys - the move is on. It will happen slowly. First stage is that there is now a #jetty IRC chat on codehaus - I've started hanging out there and it is a good place to ask me impromptu questions etc. Next I will setup a svn repo for jetty 6 mailing lists will stay as they are for some time, as will the website. But we might start using JIRA on codehaus for issues etc. cheers |
