It's just wa-ay too arrogant for my liking.
I was silly enough to simply install the latest release without setting a decent checkpoint etc.  N++ has now "stolen" so many file associations, changed the icons etc.
Too many files, the default action in explorer is now "open in Notepad".

    all .bat files.
    all the .css files
    all my .htm files !!!!

    Notepad is now uninstalled.
    NOT FUNNY !!!

There's no way that Notepad++ "steals" the file associations, neither by notepad++ itself, nor by notepad++ installer. I can confirm you that.

If the file types are associated with Notepad++, it's certainly you set them.

Perhaps you could be a little more specific about how this person might have done this himself.

By the way, why did you remove the other message?

          > Perhaps you could be a little more specific about how this person might have done this himself.

          Sure.
User can add file associations via windows explorer, or in the preferences dialog.
Notepad++ doesn't do it for you automatically.

          > By the way, why did you remove the other message?

Because I don't want to make the forums unfriendly.
Keep one rule in mind : if there is no constructive answer for the negative post, then please don't answer.

For the repeted asked question, it's always better to post the link you found,
then tell the person that he can search the forums before asking for the next time.
If not, don't bother to answer it.

I disagree. If you point out to someone that he had better searched the forum, you will encourage him still to do so. If you decide to do all that work for him, next time he will simply post a question again, because he expects other people to do his work... Nothing changes then.

Then you can tell him/her *cordially* to search the forum, or just don't answer.

                Yes, that's a possibility.

Chances are mr. asker will come back and complain nobody pays attention. Is that any better?

                  Yes, maybe.
At least, maybe he/she will try to search the answer him/herself.

Or just give him/her a hint.

Here is a good example :
                  https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4795074
(but I think it was you to post it).
