...I made it in order to extract data from big XML files and gather them in files more easily opened with a spreadsheet because I didn't find anything adapted to my needs over the Internet when I needed to (Java + truly generic + self-contained algorithm + Unix like command line options + efficiency). This is a pure-Python XPath evaluator based on ElementTree. It supports a substantial fraction of the XPath 1.0 specification, but only the self, child, and attribute axes. The parser underlying the evaluator attempts to handle all of XPath 1.0.
