Joe is world-famous Wordstar like text editor. Development has moved to Github (link in the toolbar), however Sourceforge still hosts downloads, issues, and mirrors.

Hunspell is a spell checker and morphological analyzer library and program designed for languages with rich morphology and complex compounding or character encoding. Hunspell interfaces: Curses, Ispell compatible pipe interface, OpenOffice.org UNO module

libwps is a Microsoft Works file format import filter based on top of the librevenge (see https://sourceforge.net/p/libwpd/wiki/librevenge/ ). Currently, libwps can import all word processing Works formats since about 1995 with some success. It may also be able to import some basic database and spreadsheet files.

AikSaurus is a GPL'd thesaurus library for C++. It returns many results, separated by part-of-speech information. The library itself has no particular GUI, and it can be used with any interface you'd like to create for it.
