Open Source C Window Managers

Project has been moved to https://github.com/marchaesen/vcxsrv Windows X-server based on the xorg git sources (like xming or cygwin's xwin), but compiled with Visual C++ 2012 Express Edition. Source code can also be compiled with VS2008, VS2008 Express Edition and VS2010 Express Edition, although current project and makefile are not fully compatible anymore. Versions starting from 1.14.3.0 are not compatible with Windows XP anymore.

Xming is the leading X Window System Server for Microsoft Windows 8/7/Vista/XP (+ server 2012/2008/2003). It is fully featured, small and fast, simple to install and because it is standalone native Microsoft Windows, easily made portable (not needing a machine-specific installation).

Enlightenment is a window manager for the X11 windowing system. Its design goal is to be as configurable as possible - in look AND in feel.

icewm is a window manager for the X Window System. The features of icewm are speed, simplicity, and not getting in the user's way.

Rofi started as a clone of the simple switcher, written by Sean Pringle - a popup window switcher roughly based on a super switcher. Simpleswitcher laid the foundations, and therefore Sean Pringle deserves most of the credit for this tool. Rofi (renamed, as it lost the simple property) has been extended with extra features, like an application launcher and ssh-launcher, and can act as a drop-in menu replacement, making it a very versatile tool. Rofi, like dmenu, will provide the user with a textual list of options where one or more can be selected. This can either be running an application, selecting a window, or options provided by an external script. It's not an application that can support every possible use case. It tries to be generic enough to be usable by everybody. Rofi has several built-in modes implementing common use cases and can be extended by scripts (either called from Rofi or calling Rofi) or plugins.

The project tries to create a free, fast and feature-full virtual desktop manager for Microsoft Windows. This application enhances the Microsoft "Window Manager" up to the level of usual Unix Window Manager, by providing virtual desktops, as well as some additional features, like always on top, window shading...

The UDE-Project is creating a new Desktop Environment for X11. The entirely original look & feel is mainly optimized for efficient shell usage (as for programming, sysadministration etc). Offers max. screen space, stability and very low resource usage.

MIGRATED: https://github.com/igr/dm2 DM2 provides several enhancements that helps in every day work. DM2 can minimize any window to "floating icon" (unique feature!). DM2 can minimize window to tray, make it "on-top" and provide favorites files/folders in common Open/Save dialogs.

fvwm-ewmh is made up of a module and a patch against the stable FVWM source tree. With these FVWM can handle Extended WMHints. This allows to run FVWM with KDE 2 and 3 and GNOME 2. Note that the current fvwm devel version has native EWMH support.

Wmseti and wmufo are dock app monitors for controlling multiple setiathome directories. Both display alternating lines of statistics Wmseti has alien faces appearing out of the darkness. Wmufo has animated flying ufos'.

Wmping is a simple usefull program that allows to check host status in your network environment. It can be used for monitoring servers in the network.
