Open Source MS-DOS Text Processing Software

gema is a general purpose text processing utility based on the concept of pattern matching. It reads an input file and copies it to an output file transforming the data as specified by the patterns defined by the user. See the "Wiki" tab for further information.

The FreeDOS Edlin project is the standard line editor in the FreeDOS operating system.

The Doc2Html command line operating program strippes the Word produced html files (by opening the documet, saving as html) leaving pure text + minimum html code. It also has a mode to convert data berween different charsets: DOS, Windows-1250 and ISO-8859

The GutRead utility will read texts from the Gutenberg Project and remove all the newlines saving hours of editing in your word processor. It will also produce the text in XML format.

HClean is a command-line application to clean and fix HTML code. It clears duplications, organizes code, and makes files smaller when possible.

Mateusz's Saucy Editor (MSEDIT) is a simple editor working in the DOS environment. I decided to write it, because I had been using the Microsoft's EDIT editor for years, without finding any free alternative. Of course, there is plenty of free DOS editors out there, but no one has ever matched my expectations (or should I say, my taste). I guess that's because I had already been "formatted" by the MS editor :-) You will probably notice that MSEDIT is very similar to Microsoft's EDIT. That's a pure coincidence, and there is no connection at all between both of them.

The tool FTS2DB is a translator from FTS (pure text with some structuring, and format tags, see bellow) text format to Docbook (SGML/XML) documents. It was created to provide an easy way to those users who (temporally) doesn't have a Docbook text forma

Usage: qbasdown Markdown_file qbasdown Markdown_file --verbose qbasdown Markdown_file --silent ~~~ Written for FreeDOS in QuickBASIC 4.5, mostly under a hybrid DOSEMU/FreeDOS 1.2 installation, but the final compilation in a release will always be tested on bare silicon in a dedicated FreeDOS installation. QuickBASIC? Why? To see if it could be done, I guess, and also to re-familiarize myself with this BASIC dialect. It also compiles in FreeBASIC using the *-lang qb* switch. Linux has dozens of Markdown implementations, probably better than this one, too, but I don't know of any on FreeDOS.
