Snappy
A fast compressor/decompressor
Snappy is a compression/decompression library. It does not aim for maximum compression, or compatibility with any other compression library; instead, it aims for very high speeds and reasonable compression. For instance, compared to the fastest mode of zlib, Snappy is an order of magnitude faster for most inputs, but the resulting compressed files are anywhere from 20% to 100% bigger. Snappy is intended to be fast. On a single core of a Core i7 processor in 64-bit mode, it compresses at about 250 MB/sec or more and decompresses at about 500 MB/sec or more. (These numbers are for the slowest inputs in our benchmark suite; others are much faster.) In our tests, Snappy usually is faster than algorithms in the same class (e.g. LZO, LZF, QuickLZ, etc.) while achieving comparable compression ratios. -

Lepton is a tool and file format for losslessly compressing JPEGs
Lepton image compression, saving 22% losslessly from images at 15MB/s. Lepton achieves a 22% savings reduction for existing JPEG images, by predicting coefficients in JPEG blocks and feeding those predictions as context into an arithmetic coder. Lepton preserves the original file bit-for-bit perfectly. It compresses JPEG files at a rate of 5 megabytes per second and decodes them back to the original bits at 15 megabytes per second, securely, deterministically, and in under 24 megabytes of memory. We have used Lepton to encode 16 billion images saved to Dropbox, and are rapidly recoding our older images. Lepton has already saved Dropbox multiple petabytes of space. At Dropbox, the security and durability of your data are our highest priorities. As an added security layer, Lepton runs within seccomp to disable all system calls except read and write of already-open file descriptors. Lepton has gone through a rigorous automated testing process. -

Pluggable foundation blocks for building loosely coupled distributed apps. Includes implementations in Redis, Azure, AWS, RabbitMQ and in memory (for development). When building several big cloud applications we found a lack of great solutions (that's not to say there aren't solutions out there) for many key pieces to building scalable distributed applications while keeping the development experience simple. Wanted to build against abstract interfaces so that we could easily change implementations. Wanted the blocks to be dependency injection friendly. We were initially using an open-source Redis cache client but then it turned into a commercial product with high licensing costs. Not only that but there weren't any in-memory implementations so every developer was required to set up and configure Redis. We initially looked at NServiceBus (a great product) but it had high licensing costs (they have to eat too) and was not OSS friendly. -

This project offers a C module for Lua (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and LuaJIT) manipulating Google's protobuf protocol, both for version 2 and 3 syntax and semantics. It splits into the lower-level and the high-level parts for different goals. For converting between binary protobuf data with Lua tables, using pb.load() loads the compiled protobuf schema content (*.pb file) generated by Google protobuf's compiler named protoc and call pb.encode()/pb.decode(). If you don't want to depend Google's protobuf compiler, protoc.lua is a pure Lua module translating text-based protobuf schema content into the *.pb binary format. -

Feeling paranoid about backups? Don't be! You can backup your application to multiple filesystems at once. Once installed, making a backup of your files and databases is very easy. In addition to making the backup, the package can also clean up old backups, monitor the health of the backups, and show an overview of all backups.
